Is Your
30 Second Commercial Ready?
|
How I
Gave Myself More Room
|

My last blog post was about
creating a 30-second commercial for your
web site and or business. Your 30-second
commercial is your polished reply when
people ask, "What do you do?"
That reply has to be informative and
brief. Try to keep it to 50 words or
less. It should be descriptive so you
don't have to educate your audience. For
example, our 30-second commercial to draw
traffic to our site is the following:
A free online room gallery
helping designers determine needs and
ideas using visual clues to ascertain
their clients decorating style, colors
and comfort psychologies.
Our 30-second commercial is only 24
words. Noticed we used the word free,
room gallery, designers, decorating
styles, colors and comfort. All of these
words are keywords regarding our web
site. Yes, we are asked to tell
them more. This is the response you
want from people.
When I was a software consultant, I used
the terms "software
enhancements." Almost every person
asked me what software enhancements were.
Okay I made it up, but everytime I
explained how I could take their existing
software and teach them to use it in a
much more effective method. That is what
your 30-second commercial is all about -
starting additional dialog.
If the response to your 30 second
commercial is, "Oh, my
brother-in-law does that." Then you
need something new. If the response is a
glazed-over deer-in-headlights stare,
then your commercial is too far over the
average person's head. If your response
is a yawn, look at the watch, or that
person avoids you, you need to polish
your commercial and or your delivery.
Try out your commercial on strangers. Use
the server in a restaurant. Hey, she or
he is a captive audience taking your
order, and being paid. Tell him or her,
that you are trying a new marketing
approach for your business, and see if
she or he understands your 30-second
commercial. Get their feedback. Try it on
anyone who will listen, except family
members. They are probably so tired of
you talking about your new business, and
response may not be relevant.

When I first moved to the
city, I figured that I'd just have to
learn to live a cramped lifestyle. Over
time, though, I acquired many tricks for
increasing my living space. Today, I'm
not cramped or uncomfortable at all.
The Struggle For Space -
I preferred not to give up my city
apartment for a larger one based in the
surrounding suburbs despite the high rent
that I was paying. Yet my belongings were
increasing by the day, and I didn't want
to part with any of them. As far as
having friends over, I was completely out
of luck - there simply wasn't enough
room. Quite often, when attending parties
at friend's homes, I started to pay
attention to the ways that they managed
to create additional living spaces. I
picked up a few keen organizing tips from
a few of my closest friends, but nothing
made an impression on me quite like a
friend's Murphy wall bed.
How I Increased My Living Space
- I'd always thought of Murphy wall beds
as rather ugly, unattractive things
featured in old, outdated movies. My
friend Meredith, though, had one that was
downright elegant. When folded up into
the wall, the bed became a bookshelf that
blended in seamlessly with the rest of
the room. By day, Meredith used her
bedroom as a home office; by night, she
slept in it. I was so impressed, I
immediately starting researching the
different styles that were available and
quickly chose one that matched my
existing theme and decor perfectly. It
was surprisingly affordable, too; I was
able to have installed in no time.
I Enjoy My Apartment Again
- Thanks to my Murphy wall bed, my
bedroom now doubles as a living area too.
I can finally host parties at my
apartment, instead of always attending
them at other people's homes. When I'm
not sleeping, my bed is folded up and my
apartment feels so incredibly spacious. I
no longer feel claustrophobic or squeezed
in with my belongings; there is finally
room to breathe. Instead of relocating or
getting rid of some of my things, I have
discovered the best solution possible.
Thanks to my Murphy wall bed, I can
continue to enjoy living in the heart of
the city without sacrificing comfort or
space; it was one of the best investments
I ever made.

up with an apartment that was perfectly
roomy. |
